It's been a little while hasn't it?

Hi hi my lovies! I hope everyone had a very merry holiday! I can't believe it's already going to be 2011!! I'm welcoming the new year with open arms, in hopes that it's a wee bit better than 2010...not that 2010 was a super terrible year, but a few unexpected things were thrown my way, but what's life without a few ups and downs right? All I gotta do is keep my chin up, slap a smile on my face, and have faith! :)

Anywho, every time around this year I always make a list of things I want to accomplish within the next 12 months or so...I know it's totally cliche, but I like doing it and being able to look back and see how many of them I've actually crossed off. Although, I'm still trying to cross off some from last year, but what the heck I"ll just add them onto my new list :) I think this years list is going to be rather simple, it only consists of 5 things. So here it goes:

1. Spend more time with family & friends because in the end they're really the only things that matter in this life

2. Continue to keep my faith and hope (and sense of humor) strong even in the toughest of times :)

3. Help people in need, whether by volunteering at a shelter a couple days a week or donating my time to put a smile on someones face or make them laugh. I'd really like to make a difference!

4. Enjoy my youth more, while I have it...I mean I have the rest of my life to be a grown up right?

5. Meet a wonderful man, not just your average California Joe, but someone who is a gentleman and has respect for women, and of course can laugh at himself & have a sense of humor. I know, keep dreaming..right ladies? haha

Sorry, dudes that wear Ed Hardy or have bedazzled jeans, you won't be making the cut.

So that's it a list of 5 simple things, wish me luck would ya? Hope everyone has a safe and a very happy happy New Years! Cheers to 2011 and all the joy it will hopefully bring!

My two absolute favorite x-mas movies...you can thank me later.

George Bailey <3

It's uncanny how much Clark Griswold is like my dad.

This was our Christmas card this year. I know...it's kinda creepy. I promise we're not as nuts as we may seem. haha

Happy Holidays lovies!

it is what it is.

I’m not the silly romantic you think. I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars. I don’t want gemstones or gold. I have those things already. I want a steady hand. A kind soul. I want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe. I want to love, and be loved.

I get by with a little help from my friends...

Dear The Buried Life – Ben, Duncan, Jonnie, & Dave,

Hi there! I’m Elise and I’m 21 years young, I’m writing to you to not only thank you for inspiring me and being America’s young voice, but to share my story with you. In June 2009, I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising with my AA degree and I was ready to hit the ground running, I landed a summer internship with Nordstrom and ended up working for them for about six months after, until I was let go. As embarrassing as it is to admit, I didn’t do anything bad or break any rules, except the fact that I simply could not meet my sales quotas.

After being let go, here I was left feeling lost, not knowing what the future held for me, it seemed like the only thought racing through my head was “EPIC FAIL.” I mean here I am a college graduate with honors from a top fashion school and I was let go from a retail job, pathetic right? After that moment, I went through countless interviews and spent hours in front of my computer rewriting cover letter after cover letter and e-mailing resumes, usually with no responses or phone calls. I soon realized what the problem was; I had limited myself to believing that I had to meet the expectations of having a nine to five job with a nice salary and a 401K, but the truth is that wasn’t me at all. A few weeks later, I was watching you four on Oprah’s couch where you had made the announcement that you had finally played basketball with President Obama.

That same day I went to the grocery store and when I received my change, on a dollar bill a quote was written “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build your own door.” I think those were two huge signs from the big guy upstairs saying what you four have always preached, “anything is possible, if you just do it.” Since then, I’ve started my own clothing company, Fancy Rags, which has been the best thing I’ve ever set my mind to, except there’s just one thing that I want to do that’s missing.

Before I die, I want to look back and smile, knowing I made some sort of a difference in the world, or at least a difference within my community. I live in Northern California, within the Silicon Valley area, where just alone over 100,000 people are jobless, most struggling just to squeeze by with their everyday means. My eyes were really opened when I was watching a news story on 60 Minutes, they were doing a story that was focused on people who have lost their jobs in my hometown of Santa Clara/San Jose. They interviewed three individuals who had lost their jobs and practically everything else over a year ago and still remain jobless and without unemployment benefits. One lady in particular stuck in my mind, Claudia Bruce, who had lost her well paying job and now relies on going through garbage cans finding recyclables to cash in, just in order to afford groceries. I mean, this is happening right in my own back yard, there's got to be something I can do to help!

I want to create a non-profit line of t-shirts where all the proceeds go towards helping those who have lost their jobs in my community. Whether, it would be helping them buy groceries, buying their children school supplies, starting a college fund for their children, or even just helping them afford everyday household items. Having lost a job myself, I can relate to how they feel and the worries they face. I don’t just want to help Claudia, I want to help everyone who has been in her situation and continues to be in her situation. To raise money and awareness, I'd like to put on an event where people can come and help out their community and learn more about the ways that they can make a difference in these individuals lives. I also want to show young and older people that they CAN accomplish their dreams and goals, no matter what the circumstances are or the obstacles they may have to face. I would love and am asking for your guy’s help in accomplishing this and helping spread the word about this issue, I know you are four incredibly busy men, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask! Your help would be awesome, but even if you are too busy, I won't let you down...this is something I WILL accomplish!

I thank each of you for being you and for not just giving the youth of America hope in accomplishing the things they believe in, but for giving everyone of all ages hope. I greatly appreciate your time in reading this and continue to do your thing…anything really IS possible.

A million and one thanks,

Elise :)

P.S - I'd love to send you some custom TBL shirts! - Thanks so much again for your time!

The Truth behind it all....

Hi my sweets! Hope everyone is having a lovely week! Hooray for it being Wednesday!

Last week, I posted about my new clothing company that I've been working on, which is soooo close to being done! I have a few more steps and then Fancy Rags will be available for purchase! Wooo Hoo!! I have to let you in on a little secret though, there are some hidden motives behind the whole reason of starting my own clothing company...

You see, I originally had wanted to start a charity that involved using fashion somehow, I looked into it and talk about paper work! There were so many forms and different rules, I had no idea what anything meant, I was WAY in over my head as to how to go about starting a non-profit. I mean I have always always wanted to start and own my own clothing company, but I want to make a difference somehow using the one thing I'm passionate about in life. So what I really would love to do is once Fancy Rags is finally up and running, I'm planning on creating a seperate line of tee's, where all the proceeds go towards helping families and individuals in need.

My dad showed me a news story on 60 minutes this week and it just about broke my heart, it was about people who have lost thier jobs in silicon valley, (my hometown) and have been out of work for over a year now and their benefits are done...which means they recieve no help from the government and are basically scrounging up money anyway they can. There was this one gal, who had a pretty well paying job, and now she resorts to going around to trash cans digging out recycle-able items so she can afford groceries. I mean really? Absolutely no one should have to live this way. There was another story about a man and his family, they sold thier house and their kids won't be able to go to college because their parents simply cannot afford it.

This story really opened my eyes and inspired me even more to really want to make a difference, there are over 100,000 jobless people in the South Bay alone and most of them probably have been out of work for quite some time. Starting this is going to be my next challenge, but it's something that I've always wanted to do, so be on the lookout for charity tee's! Even if it makes a small difference, every little bit will help for those in need!

Always remember to feel blessed and lucky for the things you have in your life! :)

Where's a kit kat when you need one....

Hi Sweets! I haven't been on lately, mainly because I've been super duper busy working on my dreams! I'm starting my own clothing company, called Fancy Rags...just starting off small with cute screen tee's for both women and men, the designs are pretty unique and a little funky, but it works! It has a surfer/beach/boho vibe, which I am in love with...I just ordered sample sizes last week which will be arriving on Monday! This past weekend, I went location scouting for places to shoot my lookbook! It's all very exciting and I still can't believe I'm actually doing this...It's been about 6 months of long hours and late nights spent with my new best friend...my laptop. We're planning on launching it by the beginning of November, the production phase is so close to starting, I can barely sleep at night due to excitment! But with all my hard work and hours spent researching, e-mailing, designing and blah blah blah! I feel like I havent had time to see my friends, I've barely even gotten to spend time with my family and I live with them!

So this past Friday night, I put my laptop to bed and went out to celebrate my friend Alex's birthday! It was a lovely night filled with cocktails, laughter, and dancing! Just what the doctor order, it was nice taking a break and just enjoying my time with my friends! Tonight, we're having family over for dinner which should be fun...hmm I wonder what I should wear? Anywho, this weekend I learned, that every now and then, it's okay to take a step back and just enjoy yourself because in the end, your work will always be waiting for you, but a moment to enjoy your youth will pass you up in a heartbeat. Cheers to being young and living the life!

My Own Spin on Rebecca Taylor S/S 2011

Hi loves! So after drooling over all the pictures from NY Fashion Week, I completely fell in love with the Rebecca Taylor collection, it's just so lovely and extremely girly but yet chic at the same time...she has truly outdone herself. The only problem is, I don't have a Rebecca Taylor kind of budget, but with a little imagination and creativity I've put together a look that was inspired by my favorite outfit from her collection. For most of us that don't have a bank account meant for our love of designers, we have so many resources where we can find similiar styles and put our own spin on these fabulous collections! Here's my own spin on Ms. Taylor's look off the runway.

My own spin on it

Rebecca Taylor

All it takes is some accessories and style it up with some shoes and a bag! Voila!

WHAT I'M WEARING: Sunglasses, Jessica Simpson. Top, Trina Turk. Shorts, Forever 21. Hangbag, Lulus. Shoes, Steve Madden.

And this is why I love FASHION...

Just a few short weeks ago, it was simply the best time of the year...Fashion Week 2010...HELLO! This glrorious event takes place only twice a year and in every fashionistas dream cities...of New York, Paris, London, and Milan. A girl can only dream to make it to fashion week, let alone strive to have thier own collection shown during this magical week. I must say though, I am determined to make it to fashion week one of these years..hopefully sooner rather than later. The absolute and most lovely thing about fashion is that it's never ending...it's always changing and there's always something new to be found. I just recently got around to looking at all the latest collections from NY fashion week...and in the words of Rachel Zoe "I die." These are a few my fav looks from the Spring RTW 2011 collections that were shown.

Why is boot shopping so difficult?

Hi loves! This past weekend I went on the mad hunt for boots with my two favorite gals, my mom and my sis! The truth is though, we three girls have been on the boot hunt since forever and every year when the glorious boot season comes around we have the hardest time trying to find the perfect pair. Usually by the time we find the perfect pair of boots, it's too late to be wearing them...Boooo! I mean maybe we're being too picky, or maybe we're just not meant to find boots when we really go searching for them, perhaps it has to be a spontaneously random boot shopping where we find "the pair." Although! My mom and sis did have a brush of boot luck this weekend, they both walked out of DSW with a smile on their face and bags in their hands. My mom found a chocolate brown mid-calf boot which look absolutely adorable on and my sis found an over-the-knee pair of black boots which are ultra chic and look fabulous on her!

I however, did not have that moment where my heart flutters with boot excitement, but.....I did find a little something else that caught my eye....

How AMAZING are these sandals!! I know, they're sandals, but I figured with our funky California weather I could get away with wearing them for the next few weeks. I may not have found boots, but atleast I walked away with a cute and sassy pair of sandals!

Sandals made by Zigi.
